I really need to update more often so I’m not forced to do these double topic posts.
That being said, let’s do one!
Daft Punk Samples
Now, I’m a huge Daft Punk fan and I was aware that they sampled older songs to form some of their mixes. What I didn’t know is exactly how much they did it. I stumbled across a small list of like 3 songs that they had sampled and I thought you myself, “I wonder if there are any more?” Well, after some research and digging around, I’ve fashioned a pretty nice list. Take the time and listen to these songs, if you’re familiar with Daft Punk, for most of these, you’ll recognize the part they sampled from right away.
Here is a list of the original songs and their corresponding Daft Punkifications. This list is in the same order as the seeqpod playlist above.
Edwin Birdsong – “Cola Bottle Baby” ► Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
George Duke – “I Love You More” ► Digital Love
The Imperials – “Can You Imagine” ► Crescendolls
Breakwater – “Release The Beast” ► Robot Rock
Oliver Cheatham – “Get Down Saturday Night” ► Voyager
Eddie Johns – “More Spell On You” ► One More Time
Tata Vega – “Get It Up For Love” ► Da Funk
Sister Sledge – “Il Macquillage Lady” ► Aerodynamic
ELO – “Evil Woman” ► Face to Face
Cerrone – “Supernature” ► Verdis Quo
I think this is really awesome. I always loved their “Discovery” album because it had so much disco influence laced throughout and now I can really see why. All of these songs are super disco and funk and I get all tickled listening to them.
Smash Bros Brawl Tournament
So, there was a Smash tournament held on campus this Saturday. The setup was 2v2 teams so, naturally, Alex and I paired up to deliver the what-for.
Turns out, the what-for is going to have to wait. As we didn’t do that well. Allow me to explain: The tournament was point based, lasted 3 rounds and each round consisted of 3 games (best of 3 wins the round). 1 point per win plus an extra for sweeping the round (no losses).
First round starts, Alex and I are of the first two teams to play in the tournament. We were feeling good about it cause we both did well in practice. Unfortunately, we got pitted against a cheap-o team of Pikachu and Pit. Imagine being held in place by Pit’s over-B while Pikachu runs over to down-B Thunder us. We’re not used to dealing with crap like that cause all the people we play with are, you know, good…so we got swept the first round.
Second round comes and we’re up against a Sonic and Bowser team. The Sonic was good (though his player was the most annoying guy there) and the bowser really wasn’t too good. He didn;t have to be, though because his strategy involved acting as a decoy until he got up to about 100% and then suiciding with Alex in his grasp so they both lose a life. Despite that, we went 3 matches and they were all VERY close but, we got beat out in the end.
Third round, we swept the floor with them. Didn’t even give them a chance.
Anywyas, one funny thing about the tournament was a team who’s name was “Freakachu” so you can only guess what that meant. Yeah, a team of 2 Pikachus whose only attacks were down smash to pull you in and launch you up followed by 3 consecutive down-B thunders to kill you. They were ridiculed and booed and hated the whole tournament. One guy had his girlfriend there and, even if she didn’t know anything about Smash Bros. I’d like to hope that all the booing and such let her know that her boyfriend is a huge douchebag.
The winners were incredibly good. A Team consisting of Toon Link and…Mr. Game and Watch? Seriously, though the Game and Watch was awesome.
Good times overall and, based on the turnout, I have a feeling like we’ll be doing it again.
